With a strong advanced manufacturing base and tradition of innovation, many local companies are already developing new product lines and services related to solar cell manufacturing and installation, and photovoltaics.

Smart Energy
Greater Reading is also involved in the Smart Energy Initiative of Southeastern Pennsylvania, a regional group that promotes energy efficiency and conservation as well as demand-side management products and services.
Pennergy Source, which is funded through the South Central PA Workforce Investment Board, provides an easy, quick, and cost-effective sourcing experience when clients procure manufactured components in the emerging energy services markets.
The Metropolitan Edison Company Sustainable Energy Fund is another resource that supports projects that promote the development and use of renewable energy and clean energy technologies.
