Not only is health care a growing industry in Greater Reading, but we also enjoy world-class health care from two outstanding hospitals - the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, and St. Joseph Medical Center.

 Reading Hospital and Medical Center, with over 5,000 employed healthcare professionals, perennially ranks among Pennsylvania's top four hospitals in patient admissions, surgical procedures, emergency visits, and outpatient services.  It is also an accredited Level II Trauma Center.  In addition to its superb facilities, the Reading Hospital is also a major teaching institution and offers five physician residency programs and schools for nursing, clinical laboratory science, radiologic technology, surgical technology, paramedic training, and clinical pastoral education.

St. Joseph Medical Center is a not-for-profit hospital with nearly 1,500 employees and a 375-member medical staff.  It was selected as a Top 100 Hospital in the U.S. for 2002 and 2003. The medical center's new state-of-the-art 40-acre health campus opened in November 2006 and features 212 total rooms, the Heart Institute and Cancer Center, an orthopedic joint implant center, and a family-focused Maternity Care unit.  The medical center is part of a national network of hospitals called Catholic Health Initiatives.
